Music inside the material

In 2015 the Negev Museum of Art in Be'er Sheva opened the exhibition Donkey, Now. For the launch of the iHeart ART app, which adds layers of content to every work in the show, I was invited to compose music for specific sculptures, inspired by them.

I had hoped for something huge and monumental, and got an exhibition about donkeys. At first I was disappointed. The more I worked, the more I fell in love with the sculptures and with the challenge. It was a lesson in finding music inside the material: the hollows in Kadishman's donkeys, the wings of Gerstein's, the lines and the plain “donkeyness” of shaped matter.
